BILL TURNER CUP
Did you know?

This year marks the 30th time the Bill Turner Cup will be contested.

Westfields Sports High has lifted the trophy on five occasions (1991, 1995, 1997, 1998 and 2003).

Epping Boys High (1990, 2000), Bossley Park High (1992, 2002) and John Paul College, QLD (2004, 2005) have all won the Bill Turner Cup twice.

Belmont High School won the first Bill Turner Cup in 1979 while Glendale (1981), Cessnock (1983), Wallsend (1984), Cardiff (1986), 1988 (St Peters, Maitland) and last year when Hunter Sports High beat Westfields Sports High 1-0 are local winners of the tournamnt.

Whitebridge High, beaten by Belmont in the 1979 final and Epping Boys High in the 1990 final, are the sole team from the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Hunter Valley regions in this year’s Bill Turner Cup finals series.

Can they win the 30th Bill Turner Cup final?

The answer to that question will be known around 6pm on Wednesday (10 September).

BILL TURNER TROPHY
Did you know?

Hunter Sports High are vying for four consecutive Bill Turner Trophy final’s wins.

Matilda Joanne Peters has been enlisted as Hunter Sports High’s girls coach and brings with her a wealth of experience – over 100 games in the green and gold.

Peters played in three world cup campaigns and the Athens Olympic Games (2004).

Hunter Sports High’s semi final opponents Illawarra Sports High are coached by Chris Jackson.

Jackson has played 60 A internationals for the New Zealand All Whites scoring ten goals from midfield.

Jackson captained the Auckland Kingz (correct spelling) in the old National Soccer League, the first professional side out of New Zealand to play in any national domestic competition.
