Patrician Brothers of Blacktown have today beaten St Edwards of East Gosford 1-0 at the St Edwards grounds.

Patrician Brothers will now play the winner of the Trinity College (Lismore) and Maitland Grossman in the Quarter Final with the semi-finals and final to be played at the City of  Lake Macquarie’s Jack McLauglin Oval on September 6 and 7.

An 8th minute free header at the far post by Kosta Zorafetus, from a Sebastian Ceza corner, the difference between the two teams.

“Our game plan was to get in front early,” said Patrician Brothers coach Heath Borg.

“There were a few nail biting moments but we got there in the end.”

Played on a heavy but expansive surface the match was entertaining from the opening whistle until time was called at the end of 60 minutes.

St Edwards were not prepared to throw in the towel at any stage and attacked wherever possible until the end, as did Patrician Brothers. Both sides threw everything at each other and defended like there was no tomorrow.

Unfortunately, in 2011, there is no tomorrow for St Edwards in the Bill Turner Cup – but all and sundry should hold their heads high – Patrician Brothers were the better team on the day.

“They have been a very determined team the whole way through,” St Edwards manager Scott Beattie said.

“What they have lacked in skill at different stages they have made up for in determination.

“We’ve got some very skillful players but they just weren’t on their game today.”
