Media Release dated Saturday 2 August, 2014
The venue for the 2014 Bill Turner Cup (Boys) and Bill Turner Trophy (Girls) has been moved from the Jack McLaughlan Fields at Edgeworth to Darling Street Oval, Hamilton South.
Jack McLaughlan Fields has long been the home of the Bill Turner Cup and Trophy Finals Series.
Edgeworth Eagles have secured the Northern NSW Football Federation’s premier event in 2014 – the National Premier League (NPL) Grand Final. The Grand Final will be played on the main pitch at Jack McLaughlan Fields on Sunday 14 September.
The Edgeworth Eagles were rightfully concerned that their pitch may not sustain the eight (8) Bill Turner Cup and Trophy matches over two (2) days so close to the NPL Grand Final and be at its best for the season finale.
Hamilton Olympic FC have agreed to make their ground – Darling Street Oval – available for the Bill Turner Cup Finals Series in the first week of September.
“Hamilton Olympic are pleased to host the prestigious Bill Turner Cup,” Hamilton Olympic Secretary Con Gounis said.
“We have always supported junior football and to have the Bill Turner Cup on our ground is a privilege and we will do our best to ensure the visiting teams have an enjoyable experience.”
The Executive Committee of Northern NSW Schools Football whilst disappointed Jack McLaughlan Field is unavailable fully supports Edgeworth Eagles decision and appreciates the support from Hamilton Olympic.
“We are pleased that Edgeworth Eagles have been rewarded for all their hard work over the years by being chosen to host the NBN Grand Final,” Northern NSW Schools Football President Lindsay Hewison said.
“Unfortunately we won’t be able to have the finals there this year but delighted that Hamilton Olympic have welcomed us with open arms and we are looking forward to working with (Secretary) Con Gounis and his team.”
