The four semi-finalists have been decided for the 2011 Bill Turner Trophy to be played in the City of Lake Macquarie at Jack McLaughlin Oval at Edgeworth next month on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 September.

From 387 junior high school teams the top four will play in two semi-finals on Tuesday 6 September with the winners to play the following afternoon for the coveted Bill Turner Trophy.

The Bill Turner Trophy, a 15 and under years knockout tournament where teams from as far north as Cairns to North Melbourne’s St Albans, kicked off the FA Cup style competition in the second term of this school year.

Brisbane’s Cavendish Road State High will play Westfields Sports High from Fairfield in Sydney’s inner west in the first semi-final. Hunter Sports High (Gateshead, Lake Macquarie) will play Canberra’s Daramalan College in the second semi-final.

Westfields Sports High are the 2010 Bill Turner Trophy champions, Cavendish Road were beaten by Westfields 4-1 in last year’s final and Hunter Sports High again return. Daramalan has not contested the Bill Turner Trophy Finals Series.

Founding President of Northern NSW Schools Soccer Incorporated Bill Turner is eagerly awaiting the Finals Series.

“Cavendish Road are a quality school and their association with football is outstanding,” Bill Turner said.

“Current champions Westfields can play the game … I’m looking forward to that game with a lot of anticipation.”

The second semi final between Hunter Sports High and Daramalan is sure to impress Bill Turner enthused.

“I think that will be a top game,” Bill Turner said.

“That game stands out but the other one will be a beauty.”

Hunter Sports High have enlisted former Matilda Joey Peters onto their coaching staff.

“It’s a bonus for both Hunter Sports High and us because it shows schools are realising the value of getting a good coach, a professional coach. To get somebody from one of the Football Leagues, that is a great,” Bill Turner said.

Joey Peters is the assistant coach for the Newcastle Jets in the W-League.
