The local Western Sydney derby girl’s Bill Turner Trophy Final between The Hills Sports and Westfields Sports was a highly competitive game.

From the kickoff both teams went all out for goals and Westfields took first honours with a well taken goal by Rhianna Pollicina who cleverly lobbed a loose ball over Hills’ goalkeeper Kate Hinton into the net.

Six minutes later Pollicina was brought down in the Hill’s penalty area and Iesha Jeffrey converted from the penalty spot with a low shot into the left hand corner of the net, giving Westfields a two nil lead.

Westfields continued to attack the Hills goal with Pollicina especially, causing many problems for the Hills defence. At the 25 minute mark she narrowly missed with a curling shot from 18 metres.

A minute later, Hills had a good opportunity when Caelah Stanley picked up a clearance and forced a brave save from Jessica Urquhart at Stanley’s feet to prevent a goal.

Half time arrived with Westfields leading 2-0.

Two minutes after the resumption Hills suffered a big disappointment when hardworking defender Tara Pender had to leave the field with a bad injury.

This did not stop Hills from again making every effort to get back into the game with a series of persistent attacks on the Westfield goal.

Jessica Urquhart and her defence were, however, well up to the task and it was again Pollicina who had the next opportunity with a long range shot that just sailed over the Hills crossbar.

Nine minutes from full time, Hills again attacked and Caelah Stanley saw her shot from just inside the penalty area curve past the goalpost.

Despite a last minute effort from Hiils, Westfields’ defence held out as they had done the entire game and their two goals were enough to give them The Bill Turner Trophy for the fourth time in the last five years, being runners up in 2011.
