Bill Turner Trophy (Girls)
Hunter Sports (City of Lake Macquarie) are the defending champions and will play Westfields Sports (Sydney) in the second semi final. Hunter beat Westfields last year 4-2 on penalties to claim the Bill Turner Trophy.

Westfields have won nine Bill Turner Trophy’s – 1995, 96, 99, 2000, 01,08,09,10 and 12.
Hunter have won five Bill Turner Trophy’s – 2005, 06, 07, 11 and 13.

Hunter Sports’ goal keeper Hannah Southwell has been named in the Newcastle Jets W-League squad for the forthcoming season and is one of many key personnel in the Hunter squad.

Hunter coach Ash Wilson commented on the Bill Turner Trophy finals series, after her team beat Alstonville 9-0 in the quarterfinals.

“Looking forward to defending our title,” Wilson said.

“Westfields and the rivalry, both teams play fantastic football.

“I think the crowd get a lot out of it and the girls certainly rise to the occasion.

“There is something about (playing) Westfields, it always is a very entertaining match where good football is played.

“I suppose having us in the same half of the draw gives other teams that opportunity to make that prestigious final and I think that’s the way Bill (Turner) always wanted it.

“We just need to make sure we do the job in the first game and go from there.”

In the first semi-final Kirwan State High (Townsville) travel to their first ever Bill Turner Trophy finals series while The Hills Sports (Sydney) have been to the finals on numerous occasions.

The Hills have been runners-up on three occasions – 2005, 07 and 12 but have yet to lift the Bill Turner Trophy.

Bill Turner Cup (Boys)

Trinity Grammar were last year’s winners but bowed out in the Round of 32, a 5-4 loss, on penalties, to Bossley Park.

Cavendish Road (Brisbane) will play Bossley Park (Sydney) in the first semi-final while Hunter Sports (City of Lake Macquarie) will play Melbourne’s Maribyrnong Secondary College in the second.

Three of the four teams are previous winners of the Bill Turner Cup, first run in 1979.

Bossley Park were victorious in 1992, 2002 and 2009.

Westfields Sports are six times winners – 1991, 95, 97,98, 2003, 2010 and 2011.

Hunter Sports won their only Bill Turner Cup in 2007.

Maribyrnong became the first Victorian team to win the Bill Turner Cup in 2012, placed fourth last year and contest their third consecutive national finals series.

Cavendish Road were runners-up in 2009 and 13.

Bossley Park will rely heavily on the astute goal-keeping of 13year-old Brendan Lai Loeches.
