Bill Turner Trophy Third place play-off

Hunter Sports (Northern NSW) 3 (Renee Pountney 15m, Hannah Bourke 19m, Abbey Taylor 39m) bt Cavendish Road (Qld) 0.

Match report – by Bob Brooks

At the first class Football NNSW facilities at Lake Macquarie, Cavendish Road State High School, Brisbane provided stiff opposition for Hunter Sports High School, Northern New South Wales in the girls under 15 play off. Hunter showed their superior fitness level. It was no surprise when in the 15th minute Renee Pountney fires the opening goal for the locals. Two minutes later from a well-flighted corner from the right was put away by Hannah Bourke.

Early in the second stanza the Queensland champions had their first shot on target which was well saved by Angela Maher. The threat from the North was extinguished when Abbey Taylor increased the Hunter’s score. This goal came from a powerful shot just outside the penalty box.

Hunter completely dominated the closing minutes to run out worthy winners by three goals to nil.

Hunter Sports Coach Ash Wilson offered the following post match:

Cavendish Road coach Fatima Flores, herself a former Bill Turner Trophy finalist, was happy with the squad’s performance overall and is looking forward to improvements and possible return in 2016:
