THE FINALS SERIES
Bill Turner Cup (boys) and Bill Turner Trophy (girls)
Tuesday 9 & Wednesday 10 September, 2008
Jack McLaughlan Oval, Park Street, Edgeworth (City of Lake Macquarie, NSW)
The Bill Turner Cup was first contested at Wallsend’s Crystal Palace in 1979 and this year marks the 30th time the 15-and-under high schools football (soccer) knock-out tournament has been contested.
The first final (1979) was between Belmont High and Whitebridge High with Belmont prevailing, with an extra time 1-0 victory, to hoist the inaugural Bill Turner Cup.
It is then significant that Whitebridge High has made the finals series in 2008.
The Bill Turner Trophy is now in its 18th year after being taken under the Bill Turner banner in the year 2000.
Westfields Sports High (1999-2001) and Hunter Sports High (2005-2007) have each won the Bill Turner Trophy on three occasions.
They could meet in the final after being drawn in the first and second semi-finals.
