Cavendish Road Sports High School win the Queensland Final for both the Cup and Trophy during a two night event sponsored by the Brisbane Roar.
The Queensland finals of the 2010 Bill Turner Cup and Trophy were contested on August 3&4, conducted by state manager Mr David Donaldson.
The series was opened by special guest Ms Yvette D’Ath (member for Petrie). Assisting was the Brisbane Roar’s Marketing Officer Mr Steve Guise.
Four Roar players attended – Reinaldo and Henrique from Brazil, Eric Paartalu and Andrew Redmayne. Andrew has previously played with the Central Coast Mariners and played in the Bill Turner Cup in 2002 and 2003 with Lisarow High.
On both evenings the matches were played at AJ Kelly Park, Kippa-ring, home of the Peninsula Power Football Club and all teams were welcomed by club president Mr Craig Feuerriegel.
Another special guest was Ms Rae Frawley of the Mortons Bay Regional Council and member of the famous tennis family. Ms Frawley presented the medals at the end of the fixtures.
For 2010, Cavendish Road SHS won the double with the Cup side defeating Cairns SHS in a top game, with Kawana Waters placed third and Brisbane Grammar fourth. In the girls Trophy, Kawana Waters was the other finalist and Redcliffe scored third place.
Queensland State manager Mr Donaldson expressed his gratitude to Cleveland SHS for playing two friendly matches, following the late withdrawal of the fourth semifinalist.
The two Cavendish Road teams will now travel south to Lake Macquarie for the Civic Reception and Grand Final Series. These matches are played on the home ground of the Northern NSW State League Club, Edgeworth Eagles on September 7 and 8.
