The 32nd Bill Turner Cup for boys was played at Jack McLaughlin Field at Edgeworth in front of a receptive crowd and witnessed by Mr Turner and special guest Tom Sermanni, head coach of the Australian Women’s Team, the Matildas.

Winning both the Trophy and Cup finals, in the same year, has now been done twice — both times by Westfields — 1995 and now 2010.

Westfields Sports High had just added their eighth Trophy final win, twice won three years in a row — 1999, 2000 and 2001 to the 2008, 2009 and 2010 titles. As well as wins in 1995 and 1996.

In the Cup finale Westfields’ lead 2-0 at the break on the back of goals to Anthony Francl (3rd minute) and Daniel Di Ruocco (24th). Another, to Radovan Pavicievic, five minutes after the resumption looked to have quitened the Bossley Park supporters but it was not so.

Bossley Park central defender was able to pull one goal back with two minutes remaining but Westfields’ countered in the dying moments through the boot of Hyuga Tanner.
