The opening match of the 2012 Bill Turner Finals series was played on an immaculate pitch under summer like conditions with the temperature in the mid twenties. The first half was a very even affair with both teams attempting to save energy in the unusually hot conditions. The only real action occurred at the sixth minute mark, when a free kick to Palm Beach taken by Laura Sevil sailed over the head of Hills Sports goalkeeper into the net for the opening goal. The second half started in sensational fashion when Caelah Stanley scored for Hiils Sports with a minute of the restart and then added a second d goal two minutes later. Palm Beach hit the post during a goalmouth scrimmage about three minutes later.Midway through second half Hills increased their lead through a goal by Jacqueline Anyon-Smith. Seven minutes later Caelah Stanley completed her hat trick when she scored from a breakaway. Two minutes later she added her fourth goal to make the score 5-1, and was immediately substituted!!Full time arrived with no addition to the score and a comprehensive victory to Hiils Sports.

The second girl’s semi final was a very competitive and hard fought game with both teams trying all they could to score. For the first ten minutes the ball flowed from end to end, chances made but none taken, until Rhianna Pollicina latched on to a loose ball and opened the scoring for Westfields.Hunter tried to “up the ante” but met good resistance from the Westfield defence and at half time it was still 1-0 to Westfields. The second half was as equally intensive as the first with both teams missing golden chances. However with five minutes remaining Shana Stoop equalised for Hunter and extra time seemed on the cards.Westfield, however, raised one last effort and Iesha Jeffrey was able to lob a bouncing ball into the net for the winner! Westfield Sports High will now meet Hills Sports HS in the girl’s final for the Bill Turner Trophy.
