BILL TURNER CUP (BOYS) FINAL
Penleigh Essendon Grammar School (Melbourne) 4 (Stefan Stojcevski 10m; Zaydan Bello 32m, 67m Golden Goal; Will Moustis 36m) beat Westfields Sports High (Sydney) 3 (Rhys Osmond 6minute; Noah Botic 23m, 55m pen).

The 2017 Bill Turner Cup final could well be billed as the best of all!
I have had the pleasure of witnessing two decades of Bill Turner School Football and many wonderful finales and this year’s was definitely among the best – hard, fast, skilful and gutsy from two classy teams.
History will show that Penleigh Essendon Grammar, from Melbourne and in their first National Final Series, were crowned champions. The scores were locked at 3-all at the end of regulation time and it took a seventh minute additional time golden goal to seal the win.
There were six goals scored in regulation time – all well executed that had differing sections of the crowd on their feet and cheering.
The winning goal came from a searching free-kick – delivered into the penalty box from near halfway by Niko Sikavitsas.
Player of the Series and Final – Zaydan Bello – rose above the crowded penalty area to head home the winner!
Former Socceroo coach, and a Football legend, Rale Rasic OAM commented post game that he had witnessed a fantastic game of football and saw a squad, from Melbourne, with plenty of raw talent who had played with intestinal fortitude.

BILL TURNER CUP (BOYS)
Toowoomba Grammar School (Qld) will be contesting their first Bill Turner Cup National Final Series.
Westfields Sports High is located in Sydney’s south-west and is competing in the Bill Turner Cup for the 15th time and are the best performing school in the Bill Turner Cup having won the National Final on eight (8) occasions: 1991, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2003, 2010, 2011 and 2015 along with being runners-up four times: 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Whitebridge High is located in the City of Lake Macquarie and are appearing for the fifth time having been runner-up to Belmont High (1-0 loss) in the inaugural Bill Turner Cup in 1979. Whitebridge featured again in 1980 (third), 1986 (4th) and 2008 (4th).
Penleigh and Essendon Grammar is located in Melbourne and like Toowoomba are competing in their first Bill Turner Cup National Final Series.

Queensland Finals – to be confirmed The Queensland finals series will again be played at Peninsula Power FC, A J Kelly Park, George St, Kippa Ring (Redcliffe). This venue is on the north side of Brisbane and is approximately 30 minutes from Brisbane airport. Please note that the Queensland finals series involves two games for each team over the two days. Day 1 Tuesday – 8 August, 2017 10.30 am Trophy semi-final 1 Day 2 Wednesday – 9 August, 2017 10.00 am Trophy 3v4 playoff
Victoria/Riverina/ACT/Southern&Western NSW Finals With the Bill Turner Competitions attracting teams from Victoria, NSW, ACT and Queensland, the Round of 32 and Final 16 games means that there will be some distances for schools to travel. The games in Albury on the — August will allow us to get a quarter finalist from the winners from Victoria, Riverina, ACT / Southern NSW and Western NSW. The Albury matches have been moved to Melrose Park Lavington this Wednesday and Thursday. On Wednesday 3rd August the playing schedule will be: 2:00pm kick-off: On Thursday 4th August the playing schedule will be: (kick off times may be negotiated depending on travel home) 9:30am: Consolation games for Cup and Trophy (halves can be cut to 25 minutes) With much thanks to Peter O’Riordan for organising. |
| The Bill Turner Cup and Trophy Finals Series is held on September 5 and 6, 2017 in Lake Macquarie, NSW. The 8 semi-final teams from the Cup and Trophy will be welcomed to the area, and play their matches at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football facility. The semi-finals will be played that day. Spectators are most welcome – free entry. Cafe on site. No alcohol please. The finals will be played the next day, following third place playoff matches. Following each match there will be presentations of medals and awards. More information including venue and times to be announced. |
