Saturday February 12 was Grand Final day for the W – League, featuring Brisbane Roar and Sydney FC. We were delighted to see both teams had girls that had played in the Bill Turner Trophy competition in recent years.
However it was the two coaches that stood out as having a special third meeting. Back in 2005, in the final of the Bill Turner Cup competition, Alen Stajcic and Jeff Hopkins faced off for the first time. Alen coached the Hills Sports High School from Western Sydney, while Jeff coached John Paul College from Daisy Hill (south of Brisbane). Jeff and JPC were the victors on this occasion, taking the Bill Turner Cup back to Queensland.
In 2010, Alen Stajcic levelled the score, but this year Jeff Hopkins made it 2-1 when Brisbane gained the W-League title.
