The 2012 Bill Turner Cup was a truly entertaining match between Melbourne’s Maribyrnong Secondary College and Sydney’s The Hills Sports.
For players 15 years and under the standard of play was outstanding on a balmy spring evening at Jack McLaughlan Field at Edgeworth in the City of Lake Macquarie.
Maribyrnong on their first journey to the Finals Series were victorious 4-0 over The Hills. Each and every goal was top shelf and both the top player of the final and series are from Maribyrnong.
Damian Rastocic scored twice with ‘bend it like Beckham’ free kick screamers to secure the player of the final award while Ardian Vuniqi was outstanding in all his matches to poll enough votes to be judged player of the series.
James Xidias and Joseph McNek also netted goals to add to the Victorian’s tally.
The Hills Sports had several chances in the first half but could not find the net, either because of missed chances or strong defence from Maribrynong.
Maribrynong team manager and W-League player with Melbourne Victory Amy Jackson shared her thoughts on the boys efforts at the Bill Turner Cup finals series.
